Naypyidaw: Burma’s secret new capital

Description: Police department.These pictures were surreptitiously clicked, riding pillion on a motor-bike, touring Naypyidaw posing as a tourist. The Burmese junta is spending billions building it in the middle of a malaria-infested jungle, 250 miles north of Rangoon. In this country with a bankrupt economy, its considered an “epic waste”. Two local Burmese reporters are currently serving time for clicking pictures inside the new capital a few months ago.
The military junta of the restive country is preparing a new capital, Nay Pyi Taw, in an effort to shore up even more power against its critics.
